Here we go again!
I know if has been a long time, but with the travel distance getting further and further I will probably only be bothering you once or twice a year. In a week I will be crossing off continent #5 on the journey to complete a marathon on all seven continents in Africa! The Cape Town, South Africa Marathon is on September 23rd. This will leave only Asia and Australia left to finish the all 7 continents!
We will leave out of Boston on the 18th and fly to London and then to Cape Town. While in Cape Town we are scheduled to do a Wine Tour and a Gin Tour. After the marathon we will spend three days in Port Elizabeth for a Safari. Please pray for Maria as she has been convinced that she is going to get Malaria and be eaten by tigers.
Since Cape Town is in the southern hemisphere it will be like their March and the weather should be in the 60’s for the marathon. The course runs along the water for the most part and is pretty flat. The marathon is called the “Sanlam Cape Town Marathon” if you want to Google it and learn more.
I have been doing pretty standard marathon training with one long run each weekend (15 to 18 miles) and then averaging 6 miles a day during the week. That is pretty much routine except for the longer runs.
A month after the Cape Town Marathon is the Ghost Train Ultra. This is the same race where I ran 60 miles last year…and this year I am going to try to break last year’s distance!
Stay tuned for pictures and a marathon recap after September 23rd!
Good Luck Ralph! You guys are going to love that Safari!
